Sea Gulls fall in thriller at NYU, 5-4

NEW YORK – The Salisbury University men's tennis team lost its second consecutive 5-4 contest on Sunday, falling to New York University.

The Sea Gulls (5-3) picked up two points in doubles play. After juniors Alec Angradi and Matthew Ryan dropped their No. 2 match by an 8-2 score juniors Colt Williamson and Ian Siew earned an 8-5 win at No. 1. Senior Kelson Weber and junior Patrick MacLean took an 8-6 win at No. 3 to give Salisbury a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

The Violets (3-2) picked up the first point in singles play with MacLean falling at No. 6 in a hard-fought 7-6, 6-2 defeat before Siew won at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory to give his team a 3-2 lead.

NYU took a lead with wins at No. 4 and No. 3 as sophomore Stefan Hein fell 6-2, 7-5 and Williamson dropped a narrow 7-5, 6-4 match.

Salisbury's final point came from Angradi at the No. 1 spot, as he topped Vishal Walia – the 50th-ranked singles player in the nation – in three sets 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. Angradi is now 2-0 this season against nationally-ranked opponents.

In a three-set thriller, the Violets earned the win with Joshua Piatos defeating Weber at No. 5 by a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 score.

The Sea Gulls' next match will come as part of the team's spring break trip to California, facing Nichols College in Northridge, California on March 17.
