GLASSBORO, N.J. – The No. 5 Salisbury University women's lacrosse team withstood a second half rally to defeat No. 23 Rowan University, 14-10, on Wednesday afternoon.

Salisbury (3-1) jumped out to a 4-0 start behind goals from four different players. Taylor Poore got the scoring started on a free position goal, while Alexis Strobel assisted on the next two to Lindsey Wagner and Emma Skoglund. Wagner then set up Gianna Demato to give the Sea Gulls the 4-0 lead just under 10 minutes into the game.

Rowan (1-1) got on the board with just over 18 minutes to play in the first half, but Skoglund notched her second of the game on another assist from Wagner to put Salisbury up 5-1. Wagner then found Elaine Draper, who made it 6-1, while Demato scored her second of the day less than a minute later on an assist from Julie Talbert.

After the Profs made it 7-2, Angelica Jensen tallied her first goal in the maroon and gold. Lydia McNulty then pushed the lead to 9-2 with 6:32 remaining in the first half. Strobel gave the Sea Gulls a 10-2 lead heading into the break, scoring with just nine seconds remaining in the half.

Seven minutes into the second half, Salisbury extended the lead to 13-3 on Skoglund and Demato's third goals of the day, as well as a free position goal from Gabby Mongno.

The Profs rattled off five straight goals, however, to cut the deficit to 13-8 with 12:50 to play. The Salisbury defense, led by Anna Wehland, who caused four turnovers and came up with four groundballs in the game, limited Rowan to two goals the rest of the way.

Both Rowan goals came with less than 19 seconds remaining in regulation, after Wagner tallied her second goal of the day to give her a team-high five points along with Strobel.

Skye Graham made nine saves to earn the win in net.

Salisbury returns home to face Washington (Md.) College on Saturday, March 9. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
