Men's tennis falls at No. 16 Mary Washington; Sea Gulls to hold No. 2 seed for CAC tournament

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team battled No. 16 University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, but ultimately came up on the short end of a 7-2 decision in each team's Capital Athletic Conference regular season finale.

The Eagles (18-4, 7-0 CAC) were able to pick up the three doubles points. Juniors Patrick MacLean and Alec Angradi fell in a tiebreaker, 8-7, at No. 2 doubles while classmates Colt Williamson and Ian Siew lost at No. 1 by an 8-6 score. Junior Matthew Ryan and freshman Ryan Santmyer took an 8-2 defeat at No. 3.

Salisbury (16-5, 6-1 CAC) picked up its two points at the top two singles spots. Angradi earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 while Siew earned a 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 10-0 win at No. 2 over Matt Miles, who is currently ranked No. 48 in the nation.

The Eagles picked up the other four points in straight sets. MacLean and freshman Brad Pappalardo fell at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, each by 6-3, 6-3 scores.

Sophomore Stefan Hein fell at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-3 score and Williamson lost at No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-2 score.

The Sea Gulls will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CAC tournament, hosting a quarterfinal contest on Friday, April 26 against the No. 7-seeded team, which is to be determined.

Salisbury will close out the regular season next Thursday, April 25 at Washington (Md.) College, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
