Men's Tennis drops close C2C battle against CNU

SALISBURY, Md. – A back-and-forth battle with Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference rival, Christopher Newport, went against the Salisbury University men's tennis team as the Captains claimed the 5-4 decision over the Sea Gulls on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salisbury got off to a slow start in doubles action. Patrick MacLean and Stefan Hein looked to win in No. 3 doubles against Matthew Dubuque and Scotty Hunter but the CNU duo edged out the 8-7(6) win.
  • Brad Pappalardo and Ryan Santmyer had a nip-and-tuck fight in No. 2 doubles with CNU's Baron brothers.
  • Salisbury looked to battle back in singles action. Alec Angradi and Santmyer cruised in their respective singles matches. Angradi recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles over Scotty Hunter while Santmyer muscled past Ryan Macy, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Ian Siew narrowly defeated James Baron in the first set of No.2 singles, 7-6. But, Siew rebounded with a 6-0 rout in the second set.
  • Russell Willenborg grinded out a three-set win, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 in No. 6 singles over Eddy Porsmyr Hansen.
  • MacLean gutted it out in No. 3 singles against Alex Strause but MacLean dropped the close 7-6, 6-4 decision.

UP NEXT

  • Salisbury will step out of conference play to face off with Division I George Mason on Friday, April 16.
  • The match is set to start at 3 p.m.
