No. 3 Women's Lacrosse advances to Final Four with 16-5 win over No. 11 Ithaca

LEXINGTON, Va. - Mary Claire Hisle's career-high 13 saves along with nine goals combined goals from Julie Talbert and Lydia McNulty helped the third-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team take down the 11th-ranked Ithaca Bombers, 16-5, to advance to the program's 13th NCAA Division III National Semifinal.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Megan Motkowski scored the first two goals of the game to give the Bombers the early 2-0 lead. 
  • Salisbury answered the early pair of Ithaca goals with a five-goal run led by Julie Talbert, who tallied two goals on free-position attempts. Riley Hartman, Erin Scannell and Anna Robinson all netted a goal each to give the Sea Gulls the 5-2 lead in the first 20 minutes of the game.
  • Ithaca's Jacqui Hallack netted her first goal of the day to cut the Salisbury lead to two, 5-3, with 8:45 remaining in the half. 
  • Free positions by Talbert and Lydia McNulty extended Salisbury's lead to 7-3 with just under five minutes left in the half.
  • Hallack rounded out the first half with an unassisted strike with 1:06 remaining to make the score, 7-4, going into halftime.
  • Ithaca scored its only goal of the second half three minutes in off a free position strike from Hallack, to trim the SU lead back down to two, 7-5.
  • Salisbury then went to work on both sides of the ball. Salisbury scored nine unanswered goals in the second half to secure the 16-5 victory over Ithaca. 

SALISBURY GAME NOTES

  • Lydia McNulty led the scorers with five goals, four of which came in the second half.
  • Julie Talbert netted four goals on five shots for the Sea Gulls
  • Alexis Strobel became the seventh player in Salisbury history to eclipse 100 points in a season with a pair of assists and a goal in the victory.
  • It is the seventh consecutive game that Salisbury has held its opponent to single-digit points.
  • Mary Claire Hisle's 13-save effort was the first time in her career that she has notched double figures in saves. Her previous career-best was nine, which was set twice in 2021.
  • Anna Robinson and Riley Hartman both tallied two goals.
  • Erin Scannell collected a team-high five draw controls 
  • Delaney Hill picked up a team-high three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Salisbury edged Ithaca 18-12 in ground balls.
  • Both teams won 11 draw controls in the contest. 

ITHACA GAME NOTES

  • Jacqui Hallack scored a team-high three goals, caused two turnovers and picked up three ground balls for the Bombers.
  • Megan Motkowski netted two goals and scooped up three ground balls in the contest. 
  • Rachel Rosenberg collected a team-high six draw controls.
  • Gillian Hanson caused two turnovers for the Bombers defense. 
  • In the net, Mackenzie Schade recorded six saves for Ithaca.
  • Both teams won 11 draw controls in the contest.

  • Salisbury advances to the program's 13th NCAA Division III National Championship weekend and is set to play the Denison Big Red in the national semifinal game on Saturday, May 22 in Salem, Va.
