NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University cross country teams stood tall against Division I competition to each earn top-four finishes at the Christopher Newport Invitational on Friday evening at Lee Hall Mansion.
The Sea Gull women finished the best of the Division III programs involved, taking third overall with 111 points to best fourth-place CNU (113) and fifth-place Bridgewater (Va.) [119]. Division I squads VCU (31) and George Mason (45) finished in the top two slots.
The Sea Gull men grabbed a fourth-place finish with 120 points, easily clearing fifth-place CNU (158). George Mason (23), VCU (50) and Washington & Lee (72) claimed the three podium positions.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Women
- Anna Bodmer paced the Sea Gull women by cracking the top 15, finishing 14th in 23:32.7.
- Alyssa Santoro earned a top-20 finish by crossing 17th in 23:41.7.
- Madi Sisson (24:09.0) and Peri Nelson (24:43.7) each registered top-30 finishes by placing 24th and 30th, respectively.
- Leah Snyder made it five Sea Gulls in the top 40, crossing 37th in 24:53.7.
Men

- The Sea Gulls are back in action at their home course for the Don Cathcart Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 30.
- The first race from Winter Place Park in Salisbury is slated for 2 p.m.
- Salisbury will honor its four graduating senior runners during the meet – Sam Bodmer, Erin Connelly, Matt Grossi and Alyssa Santoro.
