Track & Field makes triumphant return to action at Patriot Games

FAIRFAX, Va. – The Salisbury University men's and women's track and field teams returned to competition against multiple NCAA Division I, II, and III teams on Friday and Saturday, breaking a school record and notching numerous personal bests while at the Patriot Games inside George Mason University Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED

MEN
  • Kai Smith's time of 6.98 seconds in the 60 meters placed second in the event while setting a new personal best. Smith also took sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.72 seconds.
  • Rashawn Markman snagged silver in the long jump, taking flight for a 6.64-meter showing.
  • Andrew McGinley took home silver in the high jump with a 1.85-meter leap. Dylan Haun finished sixth in the event, jumping 1.80 meters.
  • Salisbury's A-team in the 4x400 relay, comprised of Kai Smith, Hayden Myers, Ryan Temple, and Mike Heinz, claimed bronze with a time of 3:26.79.
  • Jon Alicea finished fifth in the triple jump, leaping 13.12 meters.
  • Logan Kelsch toppled his personal best in the weight throw, launching 13.90 meters to surpass his prior high mark by nearly two meters. Kelsch's 12.04-meter performance in the shot put was also good for a personal record.
  • JJ McCauley surpassed his personal record in the weight throw with a distance of 12.46 meters.
  • Graham Schultz topped his personal best in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:03.17.
  • Alec Velleggia's time of 4:43.96 in the mile set a new personal record in the event, while Brady Medeiros also earned a personal best with a time of 4:49.28 in the mile.
  • Mason Cassady beat his prior best time in the 200 meters, finishing in 23.56 seconds. Aaron Dufresne also logged a personal best in the event at 23.59 seconds.
  • Tristan Dutton superseded his top time in the 3,000 meters, finishing at 9:11.68 to beat his prior fastest finish by exactly 11 seconds.
WOMEN
  • Anna Bodmer opened the weekend bash in style, shattering the program mark she set back in December in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:06.53. The finish clocked over 17 seconds faster than her prior record time.
  • Madison Lamb claimed her first collegiate gold medal in the high jump, taking flight for 1.50 meters to win the event.
  • Kailey Jarboe tossed a distance of 9.39 meters in the shot put for a new personal best.
  • Mia Hill leaped 4.94 meters in the long jump to earn bronze, while Kennedy Atkins soared 4.92 meters to take fourth place. Hill also ran a 1:02.99 in the 400 meters, setting a new personal best, while Atkins logged a new personal record in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.08 seconds.
  • Rachel Roberts clocked in at 18:57.74 in the 5,000 meters to set a new personal best, topping her previous mark by nearly a full minute.
  • Leah Snyder finished the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:51.77 to set a new personal best by over 10 seconds.
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 4 at the Richard Drake Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan University.
  • The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. from Virginia Beach, Va.
