WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's golf team returned to action with a solid performance in the first round of The Melee Invitational on Sunday at Ford's Colony Country Club.
The Sea Gulls shot a 39-over 327 as a team, tying with Penn State Altoona for 11th in the field of 14. SU found itself wedged between 13th-place Arcadia (332) and within reach of 10th-place Virginia Wesleyan (323).
ROUND NOTES
- Dominic Cahill paced the Sea Gulls by shooting a six-over 78 and tying for 23rd in the field. Cahill birdied on four holes, including three in a four-hole stretch on 13, 14, and 16.
- Parker Pruitt finished the round tied for 34th with an eight-over 80. Pruitt eagled on 12, shooting a three on a par-five hole.
- Ryan Henneman matched Pruitt with an eight-over 80 for a 34th-place tie. Henneman matched Cahill with four birdies, sinking a trio on the same four-hole stretch on 13, 14, and 16.
- Mason Ellis shot a 17-over 89 to slot in a tie for 63rd.
- Grant Ferrier posted SU's drop score for the day with a 19-over 91, good for a tie for 67th.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up the extended weekend in Williamsburg with the second round of The Melee Invitational. Tee time from Ford's Colony is 9 a.m.
