SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University track and field teams kicked off the 2024 outdoor season with a resounding performance and first-place finishes for both the men's and women's squads at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet on Saturday afternoon at the SU Track & Field Complex.
With 251 points scored, the Sea Gull men took first during the meet, with Wilmington following up at 148 and Delaware TC in third with 30.
The Sea Gull women were even more dominant, racking up 251 points compared to second-place Wilmington (96) and third-place Delaware TC (79).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
- Cameron Hasko took first in the javelin with the same 51.76m (169-10) mark as in 2023's Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet. Sophomore Jacob Reeves took third with a throw of 40.89m (132-2).
- The sophomore trio of Logan Kelsch, Jacob Reeves, and Mason Breeze were tight in the hammer throw. Kelsch grabbed first at 46.48m (152-6), Reeves second with a 46.42m (152-4), and Breeze rounding out the group in third with a 44.48m (145-11) effort.
- Kelsch and Breeze also placed in the discus, Kelsch first again at 47.10m (154-6) and Breeze second at 42.90m (140-9).
- It was a sweep in the high jump with Andrew McGinley completing a 1.90m (6-2.75) jump for first, followed by Dylan Haun at 1.85m (6-0.75) for second and Bryce Tucci with a 1.70m (5-7) for third.
- Tristan Dutton and Ryan Cascone finished one-two in the 3000-meter steeplechase, with Dutton winning at 10:35.27 and Cascone at 10:46.01 for second.
- Taking first place in a down to the wire race during the 1500-meter run, Graham Schultz edged out a win by .15 seconds by running a 4:12.32.
- Bryce Tucci took first in the 110-meter hurdles at 18.21 seconds and Jeremy Linden finished in second with a 19.30-second race.
- Mike Heinz narrowly missed first in the 400-meter run with a second-place finish of 49.76 seconds.
- Taking second in the 100-meter dash was Aaron Dufresne at 11.34 seconds, just .04 out of first.
- Alec Velleggia and Rajan Turner paced one another in the 800-meter run to finish second and third, respectively, at 2:05.85 and 2:06.39.
- Dean Bullock took second in the 400m hurdles at 1:02.16 with fellow freshman Jeremy Linden grabbing third at 1:10.26 in the event.
- SU had a solid showing in the 200-meter as Mason Cassady ran it in 22.92 seconds and Aaron Dufresne at 23.05 seconds to take second and third.
- Garrett Saboy ran a 15:55.72 in the 5,000-meter run, good for second, with Landon Lewicki putting up a 15:59.35 for third.
- The 4x400-meter relay squad of Thomas Niblock, Rajan Turner, Jonathan Hastings, and Graham Schultz combined for a 3:43.20 to take first.
Women
- Kailey Jarboe slipped into third during the hammer throw with a 31.70m (104-0) effort.
- The freshman pair of Madison Lamb and Samantha Minner had nice days in the high jump, Lamb taking first at 1.57m (5-1.75) and Minner close behind at 1.37m (4-6).
- There was no stopping the Sea Gulls in the long jump, as Taleah Williams finished first at 4.75m (15-7), Kennedy Atkins in second with a 4.67m (15-375), and Emma Christman third at 4.66m (15-35) to round out the group.
- Christman kept it going in the triple jump, finishing at 10.16m (33-4) for first.
- It was a one-two race the entire way for Leah Snyder and Rachel Roberts in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with Snyder taking first at 10:57.26 and Roberts just behind with a 10:57.64 finish. They beat the field by over four minutes.
- The Sea Gulls continued to show power in distance events as Anna Bodmer finished first in the 1,500-meter run at 4:59.34, followed by Peri Nelson with a 5:10.99 for second and Madi Sisson closed it out with a 5:15.26 for third.
- Lamb showed her ability to get things done on the track, as well as the field, with a second-place finish in the 400-meter run at 1:06.18.
- Karia Forvil cruised into first during the 100-meter dash with a 13.02-second time.
- In the 800-meter run, Peri Nelson took home first with a 2:27.11 run. Bodmer grabbed a bronze at 2:32.78 in the race.
- Annabella Jaconetti had her first outdoor gold in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:17.93. Gabriella Daskalova finished second at 1:18.93 and Grace Dear ran a 1:20.51 for third.
- During the 200-meter dash, Karia Forvil grabbed silver by running at 27.32 seconds and Taleah Williams the bronze at 28.49 seconds.
- Alyssa Santoro was the only entrant into the 5000-meter run for the Sea Gulls, running a 19:32.95 to place her first and defend the track.
- Maggie Dwire, Daskalova, Lily Rupp, and Erin Connelly took home the podium with a 4:37.12 in the 4x400-meter relay.

- Salisbury track and field heads to one of the nation's biggest early season meets at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, which runs from March 14-16 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Results will be finalized upon receipt with personal and other records.
