Men’s Track & Field tops Mid-Atlantic, ranks 11th nationally

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's track & field team has earned some early outdoor season success, entering the first week of U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings at first in the Mid-Atlantic Region and 11th nationally.

Through two meets, the Sea Gulls have racked up 136.02 points on the national scale. Within the Mid-Atlantic, SU boasts a point total of 614.89 points, over 85 points clear of second-ranked Susquehanna.
 
During the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet in Salisbury, the Sea Gulls ran away with first as a squad. SU also competed in the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., coming away with a seventh-place finish in a field of 33 schools.
 
Four Sea Gulls across five events have put up individual performances that rank them within the top 10 of NCAA Division III. SU boasts eight other athletes in 10 events who slot top-50 nationally.
 
In the field, Logan Kelsch has the fourth-longest discus throw at 48.63 meters (159-6) as well as the 37th-best hammer throw (46.48m, 152-6). Rashawn Markman completed a 6.99-meter (22-11.25) long jump in the initial meet of the season, good for fifth in the nation, and Cameron Hasko is seventh in the javelin throw at 59.35 meters (194-9).
 
On the track, Kai Smith currently sits at sixth in the nation with a 21.49-second effort in the 200-meter run, as well as 10th in the 400 meters at 48.64 seconds. Mike Heinz ranks close behind Smith in the latter event at 49.16 seconds for 23rd.
 
Both the Salisbury men's and women's track & field teams are back to it on April 5-6, heading to the Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
