Track & Field celebrates Senior Day, dominates Eastern Shore Challenge

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University track and field teams celebrated their seniors and put up sterling performances at the Eastern Shore Challenge on Saturday afternoon at the SU Track & Field Complex.
 
Before the final event of the afternoon the Sea Gulls held a Senior Day revelry for its 12 impending graduates: Garrett Blasi, Sam Bodmer, Erin Connelly, Grace Dear, Matt Grossi, Cameron Hasko, Mike Heinz, Ryan Kramer, Andrew McGinley, Alyssa Santoro, Jacob Shelton, and Ryan Temple.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
  • Jacob Shelton led a pack of three who finished top-five in the 100 meters, taking second in 11.02 seconds. Mason Cassady (11.19) crossed in third, while Ryan Temple (11.41) took fifth.
  • Kai Smith cracked the top 10 nationally in the 200 meters, winning the race in a personal-best 21.13 seconds to slot ninth in the event in Division III. Mike Heinz (22.74) also had a strong race and finished fourth.
  • Smith kept the beat rolling in the 400 meters, breaking the tape in another personal record of 48.20 seconds that positions him 24th in the nation. Heinz (49.40) finished second, while Hayden Myers (51.38) and Thomas Niblock (51.78) finished third and fourth, respectively.
  • Rajan Turner finished second in the 800 meters in 2:06.30, followed by Jonathan Hastings (2:10.59) in third and Niblock (2:15.81) in fourth.
  • Declan Burke (4:12.88), Alec Velleggia (4:16.25), and Brett Parker (4:29.23) swept the podium in the 1,500 meters.
  • SU took the top five positions in the 5,000 meters. Connor Kinch (15:40.55) led the pack, followed by Landon Lewicki (15:54.34), Garrett Saboy (16:15.07), Sam Bodmer (16:26.99), and Luke Petenbrink (16:33.85).
  • Bryce Tucci (16.67) and Jeremy Linden (17.75) finished one-two in the 110 hurdles, while Dean Bullock (59.13) and Linden (1:05.83) did the same in the 400 hurdles.
  • Tristan Dutton (10:26.53) broke the tape in the 3,000 steeplechase, with Ryan Cascone (10:58.09) coming in second.
  • Andrew McGinley earned a first-place finish in the high jump at 1.80m (5-10.75), with Dylan Haun taking third at 1.70m (5-7).
  • Peyton Dill won the pole vault at a height of 3.70m (12-1.5).
  • Connor Fucci earned a third-place positioning in the long jump at 5.70m (18-8.5).
  • The Sea Gulls thoroughly dominated the throwing events, sweeping the top five positions in two events and the top four in two others. In the shot put, JJ McCauley won with a distance of 14.42m (47-3.75), followed by Mason Breeze (13.09m, 42-11.5), Logan Kelsch (13.02m, 42-8.75), Jacob Reeves (12.51m, 41-0.5), and Garrett Blasi (11.68m, 38-4) in the next five positions.
  • Kelsch led the way in the discus throw at 45.26m (148-6), followed by Reeves (41.51m, 136-2), McCauley (36.36m, 119-3), and Blasi (32.12m, 105-4).
  • Kelsch picked up his second win of the day in the hammer throw at 47.19m (154-10), Reeves (46.15m, 151-5), Breeze (43.32m, 142-1), Blasi (41.43m, 135-11), and McCauley (40.27m, 132-1) followed in lockstep behind.
  • Cameron Hasko won the javelin throw at a distance of 51.85m (170-1). Reeves (50.10m, 164-4), Evan Eickhoff (43.49m, 142-8), and McCauley (40.22m, 131-11) followed behind in second-through-fourth.
Women
  • Karia Forvil broke the tape in the 100 meters at 12.58 seconds, edging out teammate Julie Thomas who took second in 13 seconds even.
  • Forvil (26.44), Mia Hill (26.88), Taleah Williams (27.61), and Thomas (27.74) finished second-through-fifth in the 200 meters.
  • Hill crossed the line first in the 400 meters in 1:01.79.
  • Lily Rupp won the 800 meters in 2:29.01, followed by Peri Nelson (2:29.30) in second, Erin Connelly (2:36.63) in third, and Victoria Novak (2:47.76) in fourth.
  • Kristen Riddell (5:23.82) and Marisa Servis (5:28.05) finished one-two in the 1,500 meters.
  • In the 5,000 meters, Anna Bodmer (18:29.01), Santoro (19:21.36), and Madi Sisson (19:33.05) swept the podium.
  • SU took the top six positions in the 100 hurdles. Kennedy Atkins led the way at 16.13 seconds, followed in lockstep by Kathleen Mulligan (16.28), Williams (16.46), Alyssa Wohlfarth (17.80), Grace Dear (18.41), and Samantha Minner (19.10).
  • Madison Lamb posted a 1:09.83 time to win the 400 hurdles, with Mulligan (1:12.98), Annabella Jaconetti (1:15.08), Dear (1:16.36), and Gabriella Daskalova (1:18.17) taking second-through-fifth.
  • Rachel Roberts broke the tape in the 3,000 steeplechase at 12:04.75, while Leah Snyder finished second in 12:42.01.
  • The 4x100 relay team of Forvil, Marlyse Haack, Thomas, and Williams crossed the finish line first in 49.30 seconds.
  • In the 4x400 relay, the top SU quartet of Haack, Nelson, Lamb, and Forvil posted a 4:16.93 time for first place.
  • Lamb earned a second-place finish in the high jump at 1.47m (4-9.75), followed by Emma Christman (1.37m, 4-6) in third and Minner (1.32m, 4-4) in fourth.
  • Haack won the long jump at an impressive 5.59m (18-4.25), moving her into 22nd place nationally in the event. Hill (5.43m, 17-9.75) took second, while Christman (4.95m, 16-3) rolled in fourth.
  • Haack earned a second individual gold on the day in the triple jump at 10.59m (34-9), with Christman (10.48m, 34-4.75) taking second.
  • Kailey Jarboe competed in all four throwing events, winning the discus throw (29.24m, 95-11), finishing second in the hammer throw (36.25m, 118-11), and fourth in both the shot put (8.82m, 28-11.25) and javelin throw (19.87m, 65-2).
  • In the javelin throw, Wohlfarth finished best of the Sea Gulls in second at 20.84m (68-4), while Forvil posted a third-place mark of 20.40m (66-11).
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls will send select athletes to the 128th annual Penn Relays in Philadelphia. The historic meet will be held at Franklin Field from Thursday through Saturday.
