Petrucelli, Brinsfield snag spots on D3baseball Team of the Week

SALISBURY, Md. – The fifth-ranked Salisbury University baseball team saw its dynamic duo of Tim Petrucelli and Aidan Brinsfield earn places on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week for April 15-21, as announced on Wednesday morning.

Petrucelli, a graduate student from Delran, N.J., slashed a blistering .643/.750/1.571 with seven extra-base hits, seven RBIs, and 11 runs scored across four Sea Gull victories. Of his three home runs in the week, perhaps his biggest came by way of a solo shot in the team's 5-4 victory over Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) foe Mary Washington.

The stellar outfielder has started all 32 games in right field for the Sea Gulls, batting .387 on the season with 15 doubles, one triple, and nine long balls while compiling 37 runs, 39 RBIs, and a 1.272 OPS. Petrucelli ranks in the top-50 nationally in doubles, doubles per game (0.47), home runs, slugging percentage (.756), and total bases (90).

Brinsfield, a freshman from Salisbury's Parkside High School, breezed through eight shutout frames and earned the complete-game win in Salisbury's 10-0 thumping of Neumann in eight innings on Tuesday. He spread base runners thin in the victory, surrendering just two singles and one free pass while fanning 10 Knights.

Brinsfield has made nine appearances with eight starts, boasting an unblemished 4-0 line with a 3.37 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 12 walks, and 37 strikeouts while leading the squad in innings of work (42.2). He ranks fifth in the league in punchouts while slotting sixth in both ERA and wins.

The duo lands on the D3baseball team after sweeping the C2C weeklies on Monday. This is the first national weekly honor for both Petrucelli and Brinsfield this season, but the third and fourth for the team as Andrew Kell has earned placements on the squads on March 20 and April 17. Brinsfield's nod is the first national recognition for a Salisbury chucker this season.

The Sea Gulls face three opponents in the next week, beginning with a home battle against St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch from Donnie Williams Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
