Track & Field sends pair of squads to Penn Relays finals

PHILADELPHIA – The Salisbury University track and field teams opened strong during their first day at the 128th annual Penn Relays on Friday at Franklin Field, with two men's relay quartets set to compete in Saturday's finals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Men
  • The Eastern Collegiate 4x100 relay team of Jacob Shelton, Hayden Myers, Aaron Dufresne, and Kai Smith shot a jolt through the afternoon qualifying heat, posting a 42.13-second time that topped the field of 21 and earned the No. 1 seed in Saturday's finals.
  • Later in the evening, Smith and Myers joined Ryan Temple and Mike Heinz for qualifying in the Eastern Collegiate 4x400 relay. That crew finished third overall out of 18 squads with a time of 3:18.94 to qualify for the final on Saturday.
  • Logan Kelsch stood tall among elite competition in the discus throw, qualifying for the finals in the field of 26 and ultimately finishing eighth at 50.03 meters (164-1). Kelsch was the lone Division III qualifier in a final nine that featured six Division I throwers and a pair from Division II.
  • Cameron Hasko finished 15th in the javelin throw at 55.18 meters (181-0), second-best among the Division III competitors.
