Kelsch sets program record in discus as Track & Field wraps up Ebanks Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. – It was a banner day for the Salisbury University track and field teams during the 2024 Dalton Ebanks Invitational, featuring top performances highlighted by Logan Kelsch making a mark in the Sea Gull record book on Saturday afternoon at George Mason.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
MEN
  • With a huge 52.96m (173' 9.25") discus throw, Logan Kelsch took fourth overall and finished as the top Division III participant, but more importantly set the Salisbury track and field program record in the event – he currently has the second-best throw record in the nation. Jacob Reeves finished with a 39.5m (129' 7.25") effort on the day in the same event.
  • In the javelin, Cameron Hasko finished sixth at 55.81m (183' 1.25").
  • Rashawn Markman picked up where he left off on Friday, taking second place in the triple jump with a 14.70m (48' 2.75") leap.
  • Setting a new personal record in the 400m, Kai Smith took first place in the event over 56 other finishers, running a 48.42-second race. Rounding out the other Sea Gulls in the event were Mike Heinz in 13th at 49.94 seconds, Hayden Myers in 24th at 51.62 seconds, and Ryan Temple in 32nd at 52.45 seconds.
  • Those same four also finished second in the 4x400m, setting a team best for the season at 3:17.50 with Smith leading off, Myers taking the second leg, Temple the third, and Heinz on the final leg.
  • Just .01 off his personal best, Aaron Dufresne ran an 11.21-second 100m.
 
WOMEN
  • Taking to the triple jump, Emma Christman finished 12th but set a personal record of 10.63m (34' 10.75").
  • Finishing fourth amongst Division III competition and 10th overall, Kailey Jarboe had a throw of 31.97m (104' 10.75") in the discus.
  • Kennedy Atkins ran a 17.27-second race to represent the Sea Gulls in the 100m hurdles.
  • In the 100m, Karia Forvil set a new personal best of 12.73 seconds while finishing 12th and Julie Thomas also set her record at 13.14 seconds while finishing 28th.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Sea Gulls take a quick trip up Route 13 to Dover, Del. next Saturday to Delaware State University for a one-day meet hosted by the Hornets.
