HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's golf team officially became the Department of Athletics' 23rd varsity program after making its season debut in round one of the Kinder-Williams Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater College on Monday at Lakeview Golf Course.
The Sea Gulls finished the first of two rounds ranked 14th out of 18 teams with a 27-over 315, one stroke ahead of the Apprentice School (316) while one stroke back of 13th-place Shenandoah (314) and four back of 12th-place Southern Virginia (311).
GAME NOTES
- Ryan Henneman posted the best round of any Sea Gull on the tournament's first day, shooting a three-over 75 to tie for 29th in the field. Henneman birdied the second and 10th holes and swung just one over par on the back nine.
- Parker Pruitt shot a six-over 78 with birdies on the second, third, and 18th holes, capping the day tied for 53rd.
- Mason Ellis finished two back of his teammate Pruitt with an eight-over 80, birdying the second and ninth holes en route to a tie for 66th.
- Dominic Cahill birdied the second hole on the way to posting a 10-over 82, good to tie for 77th after day one.
- Matthew Daughtry recorded SU's drop score for the day, shooting a 20-over 92 for 93rd in the field.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up their first tournament on Tuesday with the second round of the Kinder-Williams Invitational. Tee time from Lakeview is slated for 8:30 a.m.
