Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Salisbury University men's tennis team continued its run through the fall tournament schedule with a strong showing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South/Southeast Regional Tournament during the past weekend at the University of Mary Washington.
GAME NOTES
- Asher Willenborg made it to the quarterfinal round of the Championship Singles bracket, ousting opponents from St. Mary's (Md.) [8-0] and Gettysburg (8-4) in the first two rounds and taking down Daniel Kong of Carnegie Mellon 6-1, 6-0 in the round of 16. Willenborg was knocked out in the quarters by Swarthmore's Michael Melnikov (6-2, 6-4).
- Gurv Suri won his opening match in the B1 Singles draw, taking down UMW's John Riordan (8-6) before bowing in the quarters to Mihir Parch of Stevens (8-5).
- Jhayden Pappas won a match in the Consolation Championship Singles draw via a walkover due to injury.
- In the Consolation B3 Singles bracket, Mitchell Desman took an 8-6 victory over UMW's Aidan Meehan, while Aron Bursztyn bested UMW's Keldibek Kozhoev 8-1.
- In doubles play, Willenborg and Pappas advanced all the way to the semifinals of the Championship draw. The two bested duos from Lebanon Valley (6-2), Stevens [8-7 (7-3)], and Christopher Newport (8-4) in the first three rounds, then took an 8-7 (7-1) thriller from Alex Feies and Akshay Joshi of Carnegie Mellon in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Willenborg and Pappas were bested 8-5 by Brock Ladehoff and Evan Fisher of UMW.
- Bursztyn and Desman won a Championship Doubles opening round bout against a pair from Washington & Lee [7-6 (7-5)], while Gianluca Beaujon and Suri took down a Marymount (Va.) duo (6-1) in the same round of the bracket.
- Nicholas O'Dea and Christopher Catan were victorious in the first round of the B1 Doubles draw, ousting their Haverford foes 6-3.
The Sea Gulls will wrap up their fall slate with a home scrimmage against Harford Community College on Friday, Nov. 1. First serve from the Sea Gull Indoor & Outdoor Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.
