SALISBURY, Md. – This is "Nest to Nest," a regular series spotlighting the big miles and bigger stories of the Sea Gull student-athletes on each team who traveled the farthest to be at Salisbury University. This week,
Kaitlyn DeModna of the SU field hockey team takes us just north of New York City to a former railroad town-turned-horse farm Mecca.

What would you say your hometown is known for?
It's a horse town; there's lots of horse farms and really pretty sunsets. I'm about 40 minutes from New York City, and I'll go to the Jones Beach area sometimes.
What's your favorite hometown hangout spot?
I would say Peach Lake. It's in my neighborhood, and my friends and I go there a bunch to watch the sunset or go on the lake in the summer.
Which local sports teams do you root for?
Not necessarily local, but I am a Buffalo Bills fan. They're about four hours away from me.
How did you hear about Salisbury University?
I was looking for a highlight competitive D3 field hockey program, and I found out about Salisbury on social media. I contacted [Coach Chamberlin] and that was it.
What's the biggest difference between life in your hometown and life here in Salisbury?
I think life in Salisbury is more active. My hometown is probably half the size of Salisbury, so it's good to see more people and be around more people.
What's something you can turn to that reminds you of your hometown on the days when you miss it?
Going to the beach. I always go with my family at home, and we're even closer to the beach here in Salisbury than we are in my hometown.
How would you sell someone on visiting your hometown?
I would say go to
Hayfields, it's a little coffee shop nearby in North Salem. We've had a few celebrities pop up there once or twice, like Ryan Reynolds, which is a nice surprise. And if you get the chance definitely visit New York City or Robert Moses State Park if you're in the area.
