Men’s Golf takes seventh at Marlins Invitational

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Salisbury University men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the spring with a top-seven finish at the Marlins Invitational, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday at Cypress Point Country Club.
 
The Sea Gulls shot a 45-over 333 collectively in the second and final round, good for a two-day total of 70-over 646 to place seventh in the field of 11 teams. SU finished three strokes up on eighth-place JWU Charlotte (649) and placed behind sixth-place Chowan (631).
 
ROUND NOTES
  • Ryan Henneman earned a top-10 finish in the field 69 golfers, shooting a 10-over 82 for the day with a trio of birdies. Henneman's two-day score of 10-over 154 tied him with three others for seventh.
  • Alex Langford shot just one stroke back of Henneman's second round with an 11-over 83 with one birdie. Langford tied for 34th overall with a 19-over 163.
  • Peter Carnegie tied with Langford for 34th on the individual leaderboard with a two-day 19-over 163. In round two he notched a 12-over 84 with two birdies.
  • Mason Ellis matched Carnegie in the second round with a 12-over 84 and a pair of birdies. He finished tied for 44th in the field with a 22-over 166.
  • Dominic Cahill posted SU's drop score for the round with a 14-over 86, finishing 53rd on the tournament at a 27-over 171.
  • Ben Bowen competed as an individual and improved five strokes from his first round with an 18-over 90. He totaled a 41-over 185 to place 65th.
 
The Sea Gulls will play in their second tournament of the week on Saturday and Sunday at the Premiere Collegiate Tournament at Williamsburg National Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va. Tee times will be determined in the coming days.
