NEW TRIPOLI, Pa. – The Salisbury University men's golf team saw a pair of its players earn top-10 finishes and placed solidly in the top half of the team standings after the second and final round of the DeSales Spring Classic on Saturday at Olde Homestead Golf Club.
The Sea Gulls shot a 21-over 309 as a team, marking the field's second-best round-to-round improvement by shooting six strokes better than their Friday score, to wrap up the weekend at a 48-over 624. SU moved up from a tie for seventh out of 13 to fifth in the table, 11 strokes clear of sixth-place Ursinus (635) and nine strokes back of fourth-place Arcadia (615).
ROUND NOTES
- Alex Langford earned his first collegiate top-10 finish, tying for sixth in the field of 68 with a two-day mark of five-over 149. Langford shot a two-over 74 in round two – one shot better than round one – and sank four birdies.
- Ryan Henneman finished top-10 for the fourth time in seven tournaments this season, tying for ninth with a seven-over 151. In Saturday's round, Henneman registered a two-over 74 – a three-stroke improvement – with birdies on three of the front nine holes.
- Parker Pruitt played an error-free back nine with three birdies and no bogeys, finishing the day at a six-over 78. Pruitt shot an 18-over 162 for the weekend, good for a tie for 38th overall.
- Peter Carnegie punched in with an 11-over 83 for the round and a 23-over 167 for the tournament, tying for 47th.
- Ben Bowen recorded SU's drop score for the round with a 20-over 92. He took 51st in the field with a 27-over 171.
The Sea Gulls will turn the calendar to April with the single-round Elizabethtown Invitational on Thursday. Tee time from the Hershey Country Club East in Pennsylvania is slated for 12 p.m.
