Track & Field soars on Senior Day in Eastern Shore Challenge

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University track & field program posted multiple personal bests, season bests, and another school record while hosting the Eastern Shore Challenge on Senior and Alumni Day at the SU Track & Field Complex Saturday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls honored seniors Sam Bodmer, Declan Burke, Luke Petenbrink, Alec Velleggia, and Jacob Shelton. Athletes from Hood College, Gallaudet University, and Regent University attended the meet. 

Women Meet Notes

  • In the shot put, Lexi Frick earned 1st place at 9.83 meters (32-03.00). Jenna Weingard grabbed 3rd at 9.38 meters (30-09.25), while Kailey Jarboe placed 4th at 9.16 meters (30-00.75). Jarboe and Frick also posted 1st and 2nd place in the discus. Jarboe earned the top spot at 33.17 meters (108-10), while Frick tallied the 2nd spot at 27.72 meters (27.72).
  • Jarboe, Weingard, and Frick also all finished in the top four of the hammer throw. Jarboe placed 2nd at 36.50 meters (119-09), Weingard earned 3rd at 32.11 meters (105-04), and Frick tallied 4th at 31.35 meters (102-10).
  • Hayden Adams, Karia Forvil, and Jarboe all placed in the top five of the Javelin. Adams placed 3rd at 28.38 meters (93-01). Forvil earned 4th at 22.31 meters (73-02), while Jarboe took home 5th at 20.64 meters (67-08).
  • In the high jump, Kaitlyn Stevens took home first place with a jump of 1.47 meters (4-09.75).
  • Emma Smyser and Sofia DelRosso-Freeman both set PRs in the pole vault, taking 1st and 2nd place. Smyser took 1st at 3.25 meters (10-08.00), while Delrosso-Freeman posted a jump of 2.80 meters 9-02.25. Smyser also set a PR in the 400-meter run at 58.93.
  • In the long jump, Mia Hill earned 1st at 5.61 meters (18-05.00), which places her 26th nationally. Emma Christman grabbed 2nd at 5.32 meters (17-05.50), which placed her 86th nationally. Christman also grabbed 1st in the triple jump at 11.18 meters (36-08.25).
  • The 4x100 relay team of Christman, Marlyse Haack, Lilly Williams, and Forvil posted a school record time of 47.82, which places them 32nd nationally. Williams went on to set a PR in the 200-meter at 26.41.
  • In the 1500-meter run, the Sea Gulls took the top six spots. Anna Bodmer posted a PR time of 4:45.73 for 1st place, while Madi Sisson grabbed 2nd with a PR time of 5:06.99. Hayley Spicknall placed 3rd with a PR time of 5:17.28. Marisa Servis placed 4th at 5:17.64, while Peri Nelson posted a season-best time of 5:17.78 in 5th. Kristen Riddell placed 6th with a PR time of 5:20.73.
  • Brooke Hamer took home 1st place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91. Kennedy Atkins placed 2nd with a season-best time of 16.41, while Hayden Adams posted a PR time of 16.91 for 4th place. Hamer also earned 1st place in the 400-meter hurdles with a PR time of 1:06.81.
  • Forvil, Haack, Julie Thomas, and Christman took home the top four spots in the 100-meter. Forvil took 1st with a time of 12.69, Haack placed 2nd at 12.91, Thomas placed 3rd at 13.31, while Christman earned 4th at 13.51.
  • Spicknall placed 1st in the 800-meter with a PR time of 2:36.59, while Riddell placed 2nd with a season-best 2:42.37.
  • In the 5000-meter run, Bodmer earned 1st place with a time of 18:45.65, while Leah Snyder posted a PR time of 19:51.42 for 2nd place. Sisson, Savannah Trice, and Morgan O'Connor rounded out the top five. Sisson posted a time of 20:09.11, Trice posted a time of 21:28.24, and O'Connor finished at 21:55.68. 

Men Meet Notes

  • The Sea Gulls took home the top five spots in the hammer throw. Jacob Reeves earned 1st at 47.66 meters (156-04), while Logan Kelsch placed 2nd at 45.52 meters (149-04). Mason Breeze took home 3rd at 42.71 meters (140-01).
  • Logan Aldridge took home 1st place in the shot put at 13.16 meters (43-02.25). Kelvin Ruano posted a PR of 12.16 meters (39-10.75), which placed him 5th. 
  • SU also took home the top three spots in the Javelin. Reeves again took 1st at 50.63 meters (166-01), while Evan Eickhoff placed 2nd at 45.15 meters (148-01). JJ McCauley placed 3rd at 43.49 meters (142-08).
  • Reeves went on to finish 2nd in the discus with a PR throw of 49.70 meters (163-00). Kelsch won the event at 49.89 meters (163-08). Kelvin Ruano and Max Rial also posted PRs. Ruano tallied a PR of 35.84 meters (117-07), while Rail posted a PR of 33.14 meters (108-08).
  • In the high jump, Jadon Gaines won the event and posted a season-best of 1.95 meters (6-04.75), which placed him 69th nationally. Ryan Gorman tallied 3rd with a PR of 1.75 meters (5-08.75).
  • Gaines placed 2nd in the long jump at 6.00 meters (19-08.25), while Jon Alicea earned 3rd at 5.96 meters (19-06.75). Gaines went on to post a season best in the triple jump at 13.23 meters (43-05.00) for 2nd place.
  • SU took home the top five spots in the 1500-meter run with multiple PRs. Cormac Moroney earned 1st place with a PR time of 3:59.59, Justin Freeman tallied 2nd place with a PR time of 4:02.98, and Burke placed 3rd with a PR time of 4:05.96. Bodmer and Velleggia rounded out the top five with times of 4:14.02 and 4:21.45.
  • Kai Smith led the way in the 400-meter with a season-best time of 48.67, which placed him 63rd nationally. Isaiah Rivera also tallied a season-best at 49.18 for 2nd place. Smith also won the 200-meter with a time of 21.70.
  • Graham Schultz tallied a season-best in the 800-meter with a 1st place finish at a time of 1:56.63. Rajan Turner and Justin Friscia placed 2nd and 3rd with times of 2:01.56 and 2:04.43. 
  • In the 400-meter hurdles, Alexander Nelson and Jude Rykaczewski tallied PRs. Nelson earned 1st at 56.14, while Rykaczewski tallied a time of 57.50.
  • Mason Cassady, Aaron Dufresne, and Jeremy Butler-Taylor Jr. all posted PRs in the 200-meter. Cassady placed 2nd with a time of 22.35, Dufresne placed 4th with a time of 22.52, while Burtler Taylor placed 8th at 23.08. 
  • SU dominated the 5000-meter run with the top eight runners, two PRs, and two season-best times. Bodmer took home 1st place at 15:40.23, Connor Kinch placed 2nd with a season-best time of 15:46.51, and Landon Lewicki also posted a season-best with a time of 15:54.50. Gabe Riling earned a PR in 5th place with a time of 16:19.56, while John Conley placed 8th with a PR time of 17:02.71.

The Sea Gulls are back in action at the Penn Relays starting Thursday, April 24th, through Saturday, the 26th in Philadelphia, Pa.
