No. 29 Men’s Tennis drops heartbreaker to No. 26 CNU

Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The 29th-ranked Salisbury University men's tennis team battled in every match but ultimately came up on the short side of a 4-3 decision against the 26th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains on Saturday afternoon at the SU Indoor Tennis Center.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • The Sea Gulls reeled in the doubles point by winning two-of-three matchups. Asher Willenborg and Jhayden Pappas sweated it out in first doubles, 7-5, while Aron Bursztyn and Gurv Suri pulled out a 6-4 decision in third doubles.
  • Willenborg completed the double dip by blasting through Ryan Monroe in first singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-1).
  • Pappas [7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 7-6 (7-1)] and Suri [6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-2] both slugged it out while coming up short in second and third singles, respectively.
  • Nicholas O'Dea snagged SU's second singles point in fifth singles, sweeping the Captains' Rainer Christiansen (6-4, 6-4).
 
The Sea Gulls will play host to Stevenson on Sunday morning, with first serve from the SU Outdoor Tennis Center slated for 11 a.m. Before the match at approximately 10:30 a.m., Salisbury will honor its five graduating senior players: Gianluca Beaujon, Christopher Catan, Mitchell Desman, Jhayden Pappas, and Russell Willenborg.
