TEMPE, Ariz. – After a breakout debut season at the forefront of the Sea Gull program,
Asher Willenborg of the Salisbury University men's tennis team has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as
its 2025 Atlantic South Region Player to Watch, as announced by the organization on Monday. Willenborg (So. – Forks, Md.) earned one of the seven major on-court awards within one of the ITA's four regions from across the country.
As the Sea Gulls' top singles player and one half of its top doubles team, Willenborg won 35 total fixtures en route to leading SU to a 13-6 record in dual matches. He finished 19-3 in singles play, winning seven straight tilts to wrap up the season, and 16-8 in doubles, with 15 wins coming paired with
Jhayden Pappas and one with his brother
Russell Willenborg.
The Region Player to Watch is the latest postseason accolade to come Willenborg's way. Earlier this month he was named Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Year wall making the All-C2C First Team in both singles and doubles. He also picked up Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators (CSC) and was selected as an alternate for the NCAA Division III Singles Tournament.
As fifth alternate, Willenborg will learn if he has moved into the national singles bracket on Thursday. He would be SU's first NCAA singles competitor since 2021 if selected.
