Records fall for Track & Field on day two of C2C Outdoor Championships

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Salisbury University track & field program wrapped up day two of the Coast-to-Coast (C2C) Outdoor Track & Field Conference Championships Friday afternoon, hosted by Christopher Newport University inside TowneBank Stadium. The Sea Gulls posted two school records, with multiple student-athletes earning medals. 

The SU men placed 2nd with 197 points, behind the first-place winner UC Santa Cruz, who posted 218 points. CNU placed 3rd with 134 points. The Sea Gull women tallied 3rd place with 159 points behind meet winner UC Santa Cruz with 206 points and 2nd place finisher CNU at 191 points. 

Men Meet Notes
- Jadon Gaines earned gold in the high jump at 1.88 meters (6-02.00). Ryan Gorman earned 4th place with a jump of 1.79 meters (5-10.50). Gaines also earned gold in the triple jump at 13.69 meters (44-11.00), which placed him 98th in the nation. 
- SU dominated the discus, placing three in the top four. Logan Kelsch grabbed the gold at 50.61 meters (166-00), while Jacob Reeves and Mason Breeze tallied 3rd and 4th, respectively. Reeves posted a throw of 45.41 meters (148-11) and Breeze tallied a throw of 45.31 meters (148-08).
- Reeves went on to earn gold in the Javelin throw at 50.94 meters (167-01). Evan Eickhoff and JJ McCauley placed 3rd and 4th with throws of 46.00 meters (150-11) and 45.56 meters (149-05). 
- The Sea Gulls also dominated the 3000-meter steeple chase with three runners in the top five. Tristan Dutton grabbed gold with a time of 9:35.23, while Connor Kinch earned 2nd at 9:38.68. Seth Barron placed 5th at 10:05.84. 
- The 4x100 relay team of Jacob Shelton, Mason Cassady, Aaron Dufresne, and Hayden Myers earned 2nd with a time of 41.85, just a half second behind the winners from Mary Washington. Shelton went on to earn gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.61, which places him 29th in the nation.
- Cormac Moroney tallied 4th place in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.37.
- Andrew Moxley and Jeremy Linden earned 4th and 5th in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.23 and 16.66. 
- In the 400-meter run, Isaiah Rivera and Hayden Myers placed 2nd and 3rd. Rivera tallied a time of 48.57, which placed him 79th in the nation. Myers posted a time of 48.99. 
- Justin Freeman earned 2nd place in the 800-meter run at 1:54.38, while Graham Schultz placed 4th at 1:56.50. 
- Jude Rykaczewski soared to gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.18, while Alexander Nelson grabbed 3rd at 56.95. 
- Mason Cassady and Nolan Racette earned top-five finishes in the 200-meter run. Cassady earned 2nd with a time of 21.86, while Racette posted a time of 22.08, earning 5th. 
- Kinch and Landon Lewicki placed 4th and 5th in the 5000-meter run with times of 15:41.59 and 15:45.78. 
- SU earned gold in the 4x400 relay from the team of Rivera, Nelson, Freeman, and Myers with a time of 3:17.00. 

Women Meet Notes
- The two school records for the Sea Gulls came on the women's side in the 100-meter dash and the 4x100 relay. Karia Forvil tallied a time of 12.18 in the 100-meter dash for a school record and 4th place, which placed her 56th in the nation. Emma Christman, Marlyse Haack, Lilly Williams, and Forvil posted the school record in the 4x100 relay with a time of 47.81, which placed them 38th in the country. Forvil also placed 4th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27, which earned her 97th in the nation. 
- Haack also earned gold in the triple jump at 11.35 meters (37-03.00), which earned her 52nd in the nation.
- Hayden Adams took home gold in the javelin at 31.01 meters (101-09), while Forvil placed 3rd at 26.49 meters (86-11). 
- Kailey Jarboe earned 4th in the discus at 31.43 meters (103-01). 
- Brooke Hamer tallied 2nd in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.68, while Kennedy Atkins placed 4th with a time of 15.94. Hamer also placed 2nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.51, which placed her 90th in the nation.
- Emma Smyser finished 4th in the 400-meter run with a time of 59.27.
- Anna Bodmer soared to the gold in the 5000-meter run with a time of 18:02.61, while Madi Sisson placed 5th with a time of 19.31.88. 
- Smyser, Forvil, Haack, and Williams also snagged gold in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:57.76, which placed them 39th in the nation. 

The Sea Gulls will have a last chance qualifier at the Widener Final Qualifier in Philadelphia, Pa., on May 12th.
