INDIANAPOLIS –
Asher Willenborg of the 32nd-ranked Salisbury University men's tennis team has been
selected as an alternate in the singles field of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships, as revealed this week.
Willenborg (So. – Fork, Md.) is the fifth alternate for the 32-team singles bracket. Should five qualifiers be unable to compete, Willenborg would earn a spot in the bracket. The Division III Men's Tennis Singles Tournament will be held from May 23-26 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif., on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
After transferring to SU from Division II Flagler College, Willenborg enjoyed a breakout season as the Sea Gulls' top singles player. He went 19-3 in singles tilts, playing No. 1 singles exclusively in dual matches, and won seven fixtures in a row to close out the calendar. Willenborg, who earned Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) Player of the Week on Mar. 10, was ranked 19th in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South regional singles poll.
Willenborg will learn of his qualification fate on May 22. Should the field break for him, Willenborg would become the first Salisbury men's player to compete in the NCAA singles tournament since
Alec Angradi in 2021.
