Willenborg wins C2C Player of the Year; No. 32 Men's Tennis takes five All-C2C slots

SALISBURY, Md. – The 32nd-ranked Salisbury University men's tennis team earned five slots on the 2025 All-Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) teams and saw Asher Willenborg win C2C Player of the Year, as revealed by the league office on Friday.

Willenborg was named to the All-C2C Singles First Team and joined Jhayden Pappas as All-C2C Doubles First Team honorees, while Pappas made the All-C2C Singles Second Team. The Sea Gulls also placed two pairs on the All-C2C Doubles Second Team: Gianluca Beaujon and Mitchell Desman; and Aron Bursztyn and Gurv Suri.

Willenborg (So - Fork, Md.) seized the mantle as SU's top singles player and became the Sea Gulls' first conference player of the year since Alec Angradi in 2019. He played No. 1 singles all season, posting a 19-3 record and closing the season on a seven-match winning streak. Willenborg, who earned C2C Player of the Week on Mar. 10, was ranked 19th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South regional poll. On Thursday he was named fifth alternate for the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Tournament.

Pappas (Sr. – Dover, Del.) joined forces with Willenborg to form one of the C2C's elite doubles pairs. They played first doubles together for all but one fixture, sporting a 15-8 record with two five-match winning streaks. Willenborg and Pappas were the Atlantic South's 10th-best duo in the latest ITA rankings.

Pappas added a Second-Team All-C2C singles nod to a repertoire that now includes five career All-C2C laurels between singles and doubles play. He played 16 times in the No. 2 singles slot and went 9-12 in singles matches overall, winning four straight from Feb. 22 to Mar. 8.

Beaujon (Sr. – Willemstad, Curacao) becomes a six-time All-C2C honoree between singles and doubles, while Desman (Sr. – Moorstown, N.J.) brings home his first career all-conference nod. The pair played second doubles together 17 times, boasting a 13-4 mark and winning six of their final seven tilts to close the year.

Bursztyn (Jr. – South Setauket, N.Y.) and Suri (So. – New Windsor, N.Y.) are each All-C2C honorees for the first time after giving SU a strong option together in third doubles. They finished 13-4 playing together and finished the season on a nine-match winning streak.

Salisbury wrapped up the season with a 13-6 dual-match record and made it to the C2C Tournament semifinals. The Sea Gulls were ranked as high as 25th in the ITA national rankings during the year.
