SALISBURY, Md. – Three Salisbury University student-athletes picked up Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Player of the Week prizes after winning weekly recognition from the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C).
Softball's
Audrey March powered her way to the team's first C2C Player of the Week honor of the season, while baseball's
Jay Newton and
Aidan Brinsfield swept their way to league hardware.
Audrey March | C2C Softball Player of the Week | First Career
March (Fr. – Bel Air, Md.) swung a scorching hot bat for the Sea Gulls in doubleheader sweeps over Stevenson and Mary Washington, slashing .700/.750/2.000 while racking up four home runs, one double, five runs, and 11 RBIs over four games. She homered twice in the first game of each twin bill, driving in all 11 of her runs at the top of the daily slate. March is tied with two others for third in the C2C with seven dingers on the year.
Jay Newton | C2C Baseball Player of the Week | First Career
Newton (So. – Stafford, Va.) reached base in 12 of his 14 plate appearances, slashing .833/.923/1.167 with a triple, RBI, three stolen bases, and six runs scored as the Sea Gulls picked up key wins over No. 5 Shenandoah, Neumann, and Mary Washington. In Monday's upset of Shenandoah, he got aboard all five times up, finishing 3-for-3 with a triple, two HBPs, and two runs scored. Then on Saturday against UMW, he swiped two bags and scored one of SU's 11 runs.
Aidan Brinsfield | C2C Baseball Pitcher of the Week | Fourth Career (Second This Season)
Brinsfield [Jr. – Salisbury, Md. (Parkside)] tossed his third career complete game to beat Mary Washington on Saturday, a seven-inning gem in which he surrendered one run on two hits with one and seven strikeouts on just 74 pitches. He didn't allow a hit after the second inning and at one point retired 16 Eagles in a row. Brinsfield shares the league lead with six wins and ranks third in both ERA (2.62) and strikeouts (50).
