SALISBURY, Md. - Junior guard Meghan
Phillips scored a game high 27 points to lead Salisbury
University to an overtime win over Capital Athletic Conference foe
York College (Pa.), 75-71, Saturday afternoon, at the Maggs Center
in front of a crowd of 451.
Freshman Catherine Mills hit the front end of a
one-and-one free throw with 19.5 seconds left in regulation to
erase the Spartans 16-point lead and send the game into the extra
frame.
Mills and older sister Jessica Mills paced the
Sea Gulls in overtime as they accounted for eight of the team's 11
points. The sisters combined for 25 points (Jessica 13, Catherine
12) and 10 rebounds on the afternoon.
Salisbury only trailed twice in overtime and held a six point
lead at one point to win it's conference opener.
The Sea Gulls and Spartans saw five lead changed in the first
half and no lead larger than six points.
York pulled away early from Salisbury in the second half as it
built a 10 point lead with 14:40 to play. The Spartans led by as
much as 16 points with 9:12 left in the game. Salisbury stormed
back and closed out regulation on a 27-11 run over the final nine
minute to force overtime.
In addition to her 27 points, Phillips tallied six assists and
shot 4 of 8 from three-point range. Jessica Mills corralled a team
high seven rebounds while freshman Brianna Simpson
scored in double figures with 10 points.
York was led by Kristen Daly who scored 21 points and added nine
rebounds. Keli Ward recorded a double-double as she finished with
15 points and 13 rebounds. Chanel Perez chipped in 13 points and
eight rebounds.
Salisbury has now won four-straight games and won seven
consecutive conference openers dating back to the 2000-01 season.
The Sea Gulls will return to action on Wednesday, December 6 as
they travel to Towson, Md. to face Goucher College at 6 p.m.
