SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury
University had its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday
afternoon to the hands of Marymount (Va.) University, 61-52, at the
Maggs Center in Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball
action.
The Sea Gulls (6-10, 3-4 CAC) led the majority of the first half
before the Saints (13-2, 6-1 CAC) went on a 10-3 run over the final
four minutes to take a 34-28 lead into halftime.
Marymount led by as much as 13 in the second half but Salisbury
continued to chip away at the lead. SU had the lead down to single
digits twice in the final three minutes. Junior Lindsay
Martin drained a three-pointer with 1:11 left in the game
to cut the Saint lead to seven, 59-52. Marymount tacked on two free
throws to close out the game.
SU was led by junior Monica Merkel's 18 points,
nine rebounds and six steals. Martin was the other Sea Gull in
double figures as she scored 12, grabbed seven rebounds and had six
assists and two steals. The Sea Gulls scored 20 points off 20 Saint
turnovers.
Marymount had four players in double digits led by forward
Kathleen Brown (17 points) and followed by Kathryn Wilson (13),
Terell White (12) and Meredith Levison (10).
Salisbury will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday,
January 23, as the Sea Gulls host Hood College at 5:30 p.m.
