SALISBURY, Md. - Senior
Christina Klamp scored a season-high 16 points,
all in the first half, as Salisbury University defeated Hood
College, 81-67, on Wednesday evening in a Capital Athletic
Conference women's basketball game at the Maggs Center.
Klamp shot 8-of-11 from the field in the first half as the
5-foot-11 forward dominated the low post area for the Sea Gulls.
The Queenstown, Md., native grabbed six of her team-high seven
rebounds and blocked two shots in the opening half.
Salisbury (7-10, 4-4 CAC) outscored Hood 20-8 in the paint in
the first half as the Sea Gulls took a 36-24 lead into halftime.
The Sea Gulls led the majority of the game as four different
players reached double digits.
Sophomore Shaniece Roseborough provided a spark
off the bench for SU as she scored 11 of her 13 points in the
second half. She also recorded four rebounds, three steals and one
assist in 19 minutes of action.
Salisbury junior Lindsay Martin turned in
another solid performance as she scored 15 points, tallied five
rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman Chante
McKinney (10 points) was the fourth Gull to score 10 or
more points.
Hood (3-13, 1-7 CAC) was led by sophomore Jen Willison, who came
off the bench, to score 24 points and grab 12 rebounds for the
Blazers. This was Willison's fourth double-double of the season.
The Blazers cut the Sea Gull lead to three, 47-44, midway
through the second half but SU responded minutes later with a 14-2
run to go up 68-52 with 4:34 left in the game. Salisbury had nine
different players record at least four points and play 10 or more
minutes in the win.
SU has won three out of its last four games and will close out
the three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against
No. 3 University of Mary Washington. This game will start the
second half of the CAC schedule. SU is 4-4 in conference and will
now play eight more conference games leading up to the CAC
tournament at the end of February.
Note: The SU men's and women's basketball teams
both defeated Hood College by the same score, 81-67, on Wednesday
night.
