Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's soccer team earned its ninth shutout of the season as the Sea Gulls defeated Marymount (Va.) University, 5-0, on Wednesday afternoon at the SU Soccer Complex.

This afternoon's game marked "Senior Day" for the Sea Gulls as the program recognized its four seniors before the start of the final regular-season home game. The four seniors are midfielders Romaine Bruney and Scott Sparrow and defenders Ryan Chacon and Steven Merrow.

Bruney scored the game's second goal, early in the second half - two minutes in, on a long shot from the right side of the goalie box that went into the left corner of the Saints' net. The goal was Bruney's second of the season.

Salisbury (12-3-2, 5-2 CAC) scored four second half goals as junior Kyle Sterling scored his second of the game in the 64th minute on an unassisted shot. Sophomore Chris Finney headed in his second goal of the season off a corner kick taken by sophomore Dave Corrigan. SU capped off the scoring in the 80th minute when freshman Sam Flax scored his third goal of the season off a loose ball rebound in front of the goal.

Sterling scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute as he deposited a Mike Napolitano assist past Marymount goalie William Brahmstedt (seven saves) on the fast break attack. SU led 1-0 at the half.

SU goalie Greg Wellinghoff (10-2-2) made two saves in the win to record his sixth shutout of the season. The Sea Gulls outshot the Saints 19-4 and took 10 corner kicks to Marymount's three. The Saints drop to 4-9-4 for the season and 3-3-1 in the conference.

Salisbury will close out the regular-season on Saturday, October 25, when the Sea Gulls hit the road to face CAC rival University of Mary Washington (8-4-2, 4-1-1 CAC) at 3:30 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va. Salisbury, with a win against UMW, could lock up the second seed in the conference tournament. York (Pa.) College (16-0, 6-0 CAC) clinched a share of the CAC regular-season title with a 5-0 victory over Wesley College (10-4-2, 4-2-1 CAC) on Wednesday afternoon.
