Eury nets OT winner, Salisbury claims No. 1 seed in CAC tournament

SALISBURY, Md. - Junior forward Christina Eury scored the game-winning overtime goal for the Salisbury University women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as the Sea Gulls defeated St. Mary's (Md.) College, 1-0, in a key Capital Athletic Conference game. With the victory, Salisbury earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CAC tournament for the second consecutive season.

Eury scored the game winner 32 seconds into the first overtime period at the SU Soccer Complex. She received a pass from senior forward Dana Passucci on the right side of the goal and buried it into the back of the net. The goal is Eury's second this season.

The Sea Gulls (8-4-4, 6-0-2 CAC) won its fourth consecutive shutout and have now tallied nine on the season. In the past four games, Salisbury has outscored its opponents 17-0. Freshman forward Sarah Jessilonis led the maroon and gold with five shots while Eury notched two shots on the day.

The Seahawks (9-2-3, 6-1-1 CAC), ranked fourth in the Middle Atlantic region, were led by goalie Marie Oben who registered five saves in the loss. SU senior goalie Gena Goodson made two saves en route to her eighth win of the season.

Salisbury outshot St. Mary's, 15-4, and held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The game marked the final regular-season home game for seniors Kelli Salter, Amanda Pizzillo, Katie Marshall, Goodson and Passucci and junior Samantha Asch. The senior class is 24-6-3 all-time during the CAC regular-season. In the past four seasons the Sea Gulls are 38-25-7 overall and have made two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances, won the 2006 CAC championship, made two straight CAC final appearances and three consecutive semifinal appearances.

Salisbury receives a bye in the first round of the CAC tournament, which is scheduled to begin on November 1, and will play in the CAC semifinals on Tuesday, November 4.
