Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury's women's
basketball team dropped its home opener to No. 18 The College of
New Jersey by a 70-52 margin on Saturday afternoon at the Maggs
Center.
The Sea Gulls (0-4) put up a fight as they only trailed by five
points at the half, 35-30, thanks to some strong shooting from the
field (45.2 percent). Freshman guard Katharine
Curran was a perfect 2-for-2 from 3-point range in the
first half. She finished the game with six points, four rebounds
and three assists.
Junior forward Janay Johnson scored the game's
first two buckets in the second half to pull the Sea Gulls to
within one, 35-34, with 18:49 left in the game. Johnson ended the
game with a team-high 15 points, three rebounds, three steals and
two assists. Fellow junior Kylie Hall reached
double figures with 10 points and a team-high six rebounds to go
with three assists and two steals for the forward. Freshman guard
Glen Charlton added 12 points and had two assists,
two rebounds and two steals in the loss. SU freshman guard
Sherrita Hall (three points) had a team-high four
assists and two steals while freshman Meghan Dunn
was the other Sea Gull to score with six points, two rebounds and
two steals.
The Sea Gulls were unable to connect from the field as often in
the second half which allowed the Lions (3-1) to increase their
lead. Salisbury came as close as 10 points, 59-49, with 8:25 left
in the game but the Lion duo down low was too much for the Gulls to
handle.
TCNJ center Alexandra Gregorek scored a game-high 22 points
while forward Kelsey Kutch added 21 points and eight rebounds. TCNJ
leading scorer Hillary Klimowicz (19 points, 10 rebounds per game
averages) did not play in the game. Lion guard Alyssa Michella was
the other TCNJ player to reach double digits with 12 points.
The maroon and gold will next host Eastern Shore rival
Washington (Md.) College on Tuesday, November 25, at 6 p.m.
