SALISBURY, Md. - The first half of Tuesday's non-conference women's basketball game between Salisbury University and the visiting Washington (Md.) College Shorewomen went the way the Sea Gulls wanted. The maroon and gold led 33-29 at halftime as SU shot a season-high 56 percent from the field (15-for-27). The final 20 minutes of the game did not go in favor of the Sea Gulls (0-5) as Washington went on an 11-2 run to begin the second half. The Shorewomen (2-0) secured the lead and never looked back en route to a 68-58 victory.

Salisbury was led offensively by freshman guard Glen Charlton and junior forward Janay Johnson. Charlton gutted out a 15-point performance, a team-high and career best mark, grabbed three rebounds, made three assists and three steals. Johnson was the other Sea Gull in double figures with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds, seven of which came on the defensive end of the court.

Junior forward Kylie Hall and freshman Meghan Dunn each scored eight points in the loss. Hall added six rebounds and had a team best four assists. The Sea Gulls received five points or more from all seven players that were dressed for the game.

There were three ties and three lead changes in the first half. Salisbury regained the first half lead on a three-pointer by freshman Katharine Curran (five points, three steals) with 6:22 left before the break. SU went on a 9-2 run and held its biggest advantage, seven points, after a Johnson layup with three minutes to play up 29-22.

In the second half, Washington stormed out of the gate behind five made free throws and some key layups down low to take a 40-35 lead with 16 minutes to play. In the next five-minute span the Sea Gulls cut the Washington lead to one, three times, but were not able to take the lead or tie the game. Johnson and Charlton helped SU get back in the game as the duo scored nine combined points in four minutes as Salisbury trailed, 46-45.

Washington took off on another spurt as the Shorewomen outscored the Sea Gulls, 18-5, to hold their biggest lead of the night 64-50 with three minutes to play.

The Shorewomen were led by Jane O'Donnell (18 points, five assists), Brianne Slizofski (15 points, nine rebounds) and Meghan Lepley (10 points).

Salisbury is off a week and will next begin its Capital Athletic Conference schedule on Wednesday, December 3, against No. 20 University of Mary Washington at 6 p.m.
