SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team recorded a hard fought victory Wednesday on
Coaches vs. Cancer night at the Maggs Center over Gallaudet
University, 49-35.
The Sea Gulls controlled virtually every statistically category
in this Capital Athletic Conference victory. The 35 points scored
against Salisbury (9-13, 6-7 CAC) is the lowest total this season.
The SU defense bothered Gallaudet (3-18, 0-14 CAC) for the majority
of the game as the Bison committed 25 turnovers which led to 26
points for the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury led from start to finish as the maroon and gold took a
37-18 lead into halftime. SU's largest lead of the game was 22 with
just under five minutes remaining on the clock in the first half.
SU received a balance offensive output from its starters and
bench. The Sea Gulls were paced by junior Lindsay
Martin's 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three
assists. Salisbury's bench scored 26 points led by sophomore
Shaniece Roseborough (eight points), freshman
Lauren Crehan (seven points) and
junior Marissa Manzo (six points, eight
rebounds.
Gallaudet forward Brittainy Payne led the Bison with 14 points,
12 rebounds and three blocks in the loss, their fifth straight.
SU will close out its home regular-season schedule this Saturday
on "Think Pink" and Senior Day at the Maggs Center against Villa
Julie College at 2 p.m. Salisbury will pay tribute to its senior
forward Christina Klamp before the game.
Fans are encouraged to wear something pink on Saturday to show
support for breast cancer awareness. Salisbury will honor all
attending breast cancer survivors at halftime of the women's
basketball game. All the proceeds received through ticket sales and
donations will be donated to Women Supporting Women.
