Box Score FREDERICK, Md. - The Salisbury
University women's basketball team closed out its regular season
schedule with a powerful 73-49 Capital Athletic Conference victory
over Hood College on the road Saturday afternoon at Governor Thomas
Johnson High School.
The Sea Gulls (11-14, 8-8 CAC) turn their attention to next
week's CAC tournament where the maroon and gold are the sixth seed.
Salisbury will travel to third seed St. Mary's (Md.) College on
Tuesday, February 26, for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal game.
Salisbury held onto a two-point lead, 23-21, with 2:19 left to
play in the first half when the Gulls caught fire and went on a
10-0 run to close the half. Salisbury's lead in the second half
never dipped below 12 points en route to the 24-point victory.
SU coach Charisse Mapp recorded an 8-8 CAC
record in her inaugural season at the helm for the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury set several season-high marks in the win. Junior
Lindsay Martin (19 points) set a new season-high
for rebounds (12) and matched her season-high marks for assists
(six) and steals (five). Sophomore Janay Johnson
(13 points, three steals) set a new season-high for rebounds (13).
In the past two games, Johnson has grabbed 24 rebounds for the
Gulls. Sophomore Shaniece Roseborough (five
rebounds, two steals) tied her career-high for points (15) in her
role off the bench.
The Sea Gulls set two team season-high marks as the maroon and
gold blocked four Blazer shots and created 20 steals. SU scored 36
points in the paint and scored 28 points off Hood turnovers.
Hood was led by Allyson Lethbridge (13 points), Jessica Parish
(11 points) and Jen Willison (10 points, 13 rebounds). The Blazers
will enter the CAC tournament as the eighth seed and face top-seed
and nationally ranked University of Mary Washington on Tuesday in
the quarterfinals.
