WASHINGTON, D.C. - A new season milestone was
reached Wednesday evening for the Salisbury University women's
basketball team on the road in our nation's capital. The Sea Gulls
won its third straight game as they hung on to defeat the host
Bison from Gallaudet University with a 54-51 Capital Athletic
Conference victory.
Salisbury (7-15, 7-6 CAC) has turned around its season with a
season best win streak and a quick ascent in the conference
standings. The Sea Gulls have won six out of their past eight
games. The win also assures the Sea Gulls of a CAC tournament berth
with three games left in the regular season. SU received some help
on Wednesday as Marymount (Va.) University defeated Stevenson
University to eliminate the Mustangs from the postseason.
The Sea Gulls had four players reach double figures in points
led by reigning CAC Co-Player of the Week Kylie
Hall. The junior forward scored 14 points, eight rebounds
and made two assists to pace the maroon and gold. Freshman
Meghan Dunn matched Hall with eight rebounds and
was second on the team with 12 points. Fellow freshmen Glen
Charlton (six assists, three steals) and Katharine
Curran (seven assists, four steals) both scored 11 points.
Charlton's assist total and Curran's steal total are new
career-highs. The other Sea Gull to record points was junior
forward Janay Johnson who scored six points and four rebounds.
Gallaudet (5-17, 0-14 CAC) remains winless in conference play.
Andrea Amati led the Bison with 15 points off the bench. The Bison
outrebounded the Sea Gulls 39-37.
In the first half there were four ties and two lead changes
before the two teams went into the half tied at 25-25.
Salisbury never trailed in the second half as the Sea Gulls led
by as many as nine points, several times throughout the final 20
minutes of play.
SU remains on the road this weekend as the Sea Gulls travel to
Stevenson University on Saturday, February 14, for a 2 p.m. CAC
game with the Mustangs.
NOTE: Gallaudet celebrated the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) "Pink Zone" initiative on
