the season series with the Wolverines. SU won the last match-up on
February 7 when the Gulls defeated the Wolverines 61-59.
The Sea Gulls set the pace of the game early as they used 11
points by Curran in the first five minutes to jump out to an early
13-4 lead. Hood would register the next six points of the contest
to drop the Sea Gull lead to three before SU went on a 10-2 run to
extend its lead to 11 points, 23-12, with just over eight minutes
left in the half. The Sea Gulls would not register a field goal
over the next three minutes until freshman guard Glen
Charlton (eight points) buried a jumper to halt an 8-1
Blazer run. Hood would get within three points with just over two
minutes to go in the half when Jessica Parrish (17 points, six
rebounds) made a lay-up to bring the Blazers within three points,
26-23. Salisbury scored the last four points of the half and went
into intermission up seven, 30-23. Curran led all scorers with 13
first-half points.
It took the Sea Gulls only 10 seconds to get on the board in the
second half as they used back-to-back free-throws by Charlton to
extend their lead. A Curran jumper 40 seconds later would push the
SU advantage to double figures for the second time of the contest
as the Sea Gulls held a 10-point lead, 34-24. Hood stormed back and
would collect eight consecutive points over the next two minutes,
seven by Jen Willison, to reduce their deficit to just two points.
The two teams would trade baskets before Willison made a lay-up to
create the game's second tie, 36-36. Salisbury regrouped as the Sea
Gulls went on a 12-4 run over the next three minutes to take an
eight-point lead, 48-40. The SU advantage was shortened to three
points at the 6:35 mark on a Blazer jumper but it proved to be as
close as Hood would get the rest of the way. SU posted an 18-6 run
over the next five minutes and would never look back.
