SALISBURY, Md. - Junior Janay Johnson made a jump shot in front of a Wesley College defender with no time left to lift Salisbury University to a thrilling 61-59 Capital Athletic Conference women's basketball victory at home on Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps the Sea Gulls (6-15) in the CAC playoff picture as the maroon and gold sit in fifth place with a 6-6 conference record with two weeks left in the regular season.

Salisbury had four seconds to work with to break the 59-59 tie in the second half. Junior forward Kylie Hall found Johnson on the left-side of the basket as the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard. Johnson's shot went into the basket as the final horn sounded and the Sea Gulls mobbed each other at mid-court to celebrate the thrilling victory.

SU had three players reach double figures led by freshman Glen Charlton's career-high 22 points and five steals. Hall recorded her seventh double-double as she scored a career-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Johnson scored 13 points and made four steals in the win. Sophomore forward Kelsey Netter came off the bench and recorded a career-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Katharine Curran was second on the team with eight rebounds and added four assists.

This is the second straight game Salisbury has shot over 50 percent from the field and recorded 13 steals as a team. SU also shot 80 percent from the free-throw line to match its season-high mark. The Sea Gulls outrebounded the Wolverines 41-26.

Wesley (12-9, 8-4 CAC) lost its second straight CAC game this week as the Wolverines shot 36.2 percent from the field against Salisbury. The Wolverines were led by sophomore guard Cory Boyd's season-high 27 points. Forward Angie Owens added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

The Sea Gulls started off strong as the maroon and gold broke away from the Wolverines with nine minutes left in the first half. SU took a 34-25 lead into the intermission on "Take a Kid to the Game" day at the Maggs Center.

Salisbury has won five out of its last seven games and will next travel to Washington, D.C., to face Gallaudet University on Wednesday, February 11, at 6 p.m. in another CAC contest. SU won the last meeting on January 17 with a 68-45 win at home.
