Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury University men's
soccer team scored twice in the final 10 minutes Wednesday to claim
a 2-1 win against Wesley College at the SU Soccer Complex.
Salisbury (8-1-1, 2-0-1 CAC) dominated play throughout the game,
holding a 26-4 edge on shots in the match. With 10 minutes
left, Salisbury senior forward Nick Malone (Salisbury,
Md.) scored his sixth goal of the season on a header over
the Wesley goalkeeper. Malone's strike tied the game,
1-1, and looked to send it into overtime. But with four
minutes left senior midfielder Kyle Sterling (Salisbury,
Md.) came up with the game winner, scoring his eighth goal
of the season, to put the Sea Gulls ahead 2-1. Sterling beat the
Wesley defense, dribbled past the goalkeeper and slipped the ball
across the line. He was assisted by freshman midfielder
Jimmy Mundy (Ellicott City, Md.) on the play.
The Sea Gull defense played tough and allowed only four Wesley
shots. It was a physical game that featured a total of 38 fouls and
three yellow cards.
Wesley (5-5, 2-1 CAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on Nico
Scarpato's goal in the 12th minute of the game. The Sea Gulls
dominated Wesley in the first half, outshooting the Wolverines
16-2, just missing on a number of scoring chances.
Salisbury will be in action again at Lynchburg College on Oct. 3
at 3:30 p.m. They will return home on Oct. 7 to play Stevenson
University at 4 p.m. at the SU Soccer Complex.
