Box Score STEVENSON, Md. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team struggled from the floor Wednesday night,
shooting just 32 percent in its game at Stevenson University,
falling to the Mustangs, 55-53.
Salisbury never led in the second half, but was never out of
contention. The Mustangs' largest lead of the night was just eight
points and the game was tied five times in the second half. The
latest tie came when senior forward Janay Johnson (Baltimore,
Md.) buried a pair of free throws with 1:02 showing on
the clock. The two points tied the game at 53-53.
Johnson's key free throws were part of a solid game, in which
she finished with nine points and nine rebounds despite being
limited to 27 minutes because of foul trouble.
Stevenson (5-10, 3-5 CAC) was able to take the final lead of the
game on its next possession. After missing the first field goal
attempt, an offensive rebound kept the ball on the Mustangs' end of
the court where JaQuelia Conley hit the game winner with 35 seconds
remaining.
Sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover,
Md.) got the last shot for Salisbury (5-10, 2-6), with
five second remaining, but could not connect. Charlton scored 10
points in the game, which matched senior forward Kylie Hall (Baltimore,
Md.) for team-high honors.
Hall also pulled down 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of
the 2009-10 season.
Salisbury will return to Maggs Physical Activities Center to
take on St. Mary's (Md.) College Saturday afternoon. The game will
tip off at 2 p.m.
