FORT DETRICK, Md. - Freshman forward Nicole Sisco
(Fairlawn, N.J.) had a breakout game for the Salisbury
University women's basketball team Wednesday night. Sisco finished
with a career-high 15 rebounds and matched her career best with 11
points, coming up with her first collegiate double-double, as the
Sea Gulls topped Hood College, 54-38.
Salisbury's defense was in top form, as the 38 points scored by
the Blazers was the lowest total allowed by the Sea Gulls since
they held Gallaudet University to 35 points on Feb. 13, 2008.
Hood (4-13, 1-9 Capital Athletic Conference) connected on just 11
field goals, a low-water mark of any Salisbury opponent this
season. The Blazers' 24.4 field goal percentage, was the
second-lowest total allowed by the Sea Gulls.
Salisbury (7-10, 4-6 CAC) trailed only once Wednesday, 7-6,
seven minutes into the contest, but took the lead back on a pair of
free throws by senior forward Kylie Hall (Baltimore,
Md.) . The Sea Gulls stretched their lead to seven
points by the break and put the game away on with a 12-2 run midway
through the second half, going up by 19 points with four minutes to
play.
Hall scored five of the 12 points during the run; she finished
with 10 points, as it was the Salisbury forwards that owned the
night. Senior forward Janay Johnson (Baltimore,
Md.) had a strong night, matching her season-best 16
points, most of any player in the game. She also pulled down eight
rebounds. The Sea Gulls outrebounded Hood 53-31 in the game.
The win is Salisbury's seventh consecutive against Hood, dating
back to the 2004-05 season.
Salisbury will travel to Rowan University Monday night before
jumping back into Capital Athletic Conference play next Wednesday
when it hosts Gallaudet University at Maggs Physical Activities
Center.
