Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - It was a
chilly Saturday afternoon, but the Salisbury University women's
basketball team was heating things up in Maggs Physical Activities
Center as the Sea Gulls squared off against the No. 7 ranked
Marymount (Va.) University Saints. The undefeated Saints, a Capital
Athletic Conference opponent, came away with the 63-41 victory.
The low-scoring first half (29-16) was indicative of the highly
aggressive play by both the Sea Gulls (5-6, 2-2 CAC) and the
Saints (14-0, 5-0 CAC). Marymount's Tara Eddy scored the first
points of the game from beyond the 3-point arc; less than a minute
later, freshman guard Nichole
Muller (Flanders, N.J.) hit the equalizer for
Salisbury. It wasn't the only time the teams would be tied in the
first half, as sophomore guard KC
Curran (Malvern, Pa.) netted a 3-point shot with 10:16
left to play in the first to tie the game up at 10 apiece. From
that point on, the Saints began to slowly pull away and entered the
locker room with a 13-point advantage over the Sea Gulls.
Marymount continued to add on to its lead in the second half,
but it wasn't without a fight from the Gulls. The contest proved to
be one of the most physical of the season, with both teams
committing a combined 26 fouls and turning the ball over 56 times.
Curran was the only Sea Gull to finish in double-digit point
totals, netting 10 on the night. However, nine different Sea Gulls
scored points in the game.
The maroon and gold will remain at home for their next contest,
against CAC foe York (Pa.) College on Jan. 13. Tip-off is set for 6
p.m.
