Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Sophomore guard Katie McGahagan scored six points in overtime and pulled down six rebounds as part of a career night to help the Salisbury University women's basketball team collect a win in its Capital Athletic Conference opener at Stevenson University, 68-60.
McGahagan played a career-high 43 minutes in the contest; she was one of six Sea Gulls to reach a career high in playing time in the game.
After Salisbury (2-2, 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference) took a 14-5 lead midway through the first half, the Mustangs climbed back into the game, grabbing a 22-19 lead at halftime. The lead changed hands eight times in the second half, and only one lead extended to more than three points in that time.
The Sea Gulls found themselves down by a point on two different occasions in the final three minutes of regulation, but free throws by senior Chante' McKinney and junior Glen Charlton tied the game each time. Charlton's free throw with 40 seconds remaining tied the game at 54-54, which is how the game stood as it went to the extra session.
McGahagan scored the first six points of the overtime period as Salisbury started on a 7-1 run. The Mustangs (0-4, 0-1 CAC) could get no closer than four points the rest of the way.
It was a career night for McGahagan, who not only put up 14 points, but also pulled down a whopping 25 rebounds. Junior KC Curran led the Gulls with 17 points in the contest while McKinney added 16 and nine rebounds.
The Sea Gulls will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when they host Hood College at Maggs Physical Activities Center. It will start a run of five straight home games for Salisbury.
