Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team picked up its second Capital Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night, topping Hood College, 75-67, at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
The Sea Gulls were sparked early by junior Milan Dry, who scored 10 first-half points; she finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Dry found small openings on the offensive end of the floor and was deadly with her mid-range jumpers, connecting on 7-of-11 field goals in the game.
The lead changed hands six times in the first half before the Sea Gulls (3-2, 2-0 Capital Athletic Conference) pulled away with a 16-5 run over the final six minutes of the first half to take a 39-29 lead at the break.
Salisbury picked up in the second half where it left off before halftime, beginning the stanza on a 6-0 run. Senior guard Chante' McKinney scored two points during the run and dropped in four of her team-high 16 in the opening four minutes of the second half.
The Blazers (4-2, 0-1 CAC) were able to cut the lead down to single digits just three times in the second half, but never got closer than eight points.
Dry and McKinney were two of four players to finished in double figures for the Sea Gulls. Junior Glen Charlton put up 15 points to go with six rebounds, while sophomore Katie McGahagan added 14 points and seven boards.
Salisbury moved the ball well throughout the game, posting assists on 17 of their 31 field goals. Charlton was good for seven of the helpers while junior KC Curran added six assists.
The Sea Gulls will be back in action Friday night as they kick off action in the 2010 Optimist Classic. Salisbury will host Southern Virginia University on Friday at 6 p.m., and will close out play in the 2010 event on Saturday at 6 p.m., against the Apprentice School.
