Box Score EWING, N.J. – The Salisbury University women's basketball team closed out play for the 2010 calendar year with a 61-46 loss at The College of New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.
The Sea Gulls (4-6) struggled early in the game, connecting on just two of their first 18 field goal attempts, but there is no quit in Head Coach Charisse Mapp's team. Salisbury found itself down 12-4 after the tough start, nearly 10 minutes into the contest, and would fall behind by as many as 15 in the first half but made runs at the Lions (5-4) in the second half.
The Lions' lead grew to 39-15 early in the second half before the Sea Gulls rattled off 12 straight points to get within striking distance. Junior KC Curran connected on a pair of three-pointers during the run to spark the Gulls; she finished with nine points.
TCNJ would push the lead back to near 20 points before another Sea Gull spurt, capped by a three by senior guard Chante' McKinney, left Salisbury down 51-40 with 4:22 to play.
But the 11-point deficit would be as close as the Sea Gulls would get the rest of the way.
McKinney nearly picked up a triple-double, finishing with a team-high 10 points to go with 11 rebounds and nine assists. The rebound and assist mark each match career highs for McKinney. Junior guard Glen Charlton also scored 10 points while sophomore Nicole Sisco pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
Salisbury will be off for more than two weeks, returning to action at Lebanon Valley College on Jan. 3, 2011. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. The Sea Gulls' next home game will take place on Jan. 12, in a doubleheader with the men's team, as both squads will host Wesley College.
