GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team saw its modest two-game winning streak come
to an end Monday night during its final non-conference contest of
the season, falling 80-55 at Rowan University in the first meeting
between the teams since the 2006-07 season.
The Sea Gulls (7-11) struggled from the field in the game,
shooting just 34.5 percent, while the Profs were good on 47.7
percent of their shots from the floor.
Rowan (13-7) began the game on a 9-2 run and stretched its lead
to 10 points with 11 minutes remaining the first half. A pair of
buckets from sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover,
Md.) and two free throws from senior forward
Kylie Hall
(Baltimore, Md.) marked a 6-0 Salisbury run that cut
the deficit to four points, but it was as close as the Sea Gulls
would get.
Charlton led the way for the Sea Gulls with a team-high 16
points on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. Charlton also had three
steals in 29 minutes of action while Hall finished with 15 points
and 15 rebounds, for her 10th double-double of the
season.
Hall's rebounds were part of Salisbury outrebounding the Profs
42-39 in the game. It marked the 11th time this season,
and the fourth straight game, that the Sea Gulls have pulled down
more boards than the opposition.
The Sea Gulls will return home Wednesday night, when they host
the Gallaudet University Bison at Maggs Physical Activities Center.
Salisbury will be looking to avenge a 69-68 loss on Jan. 6. It will
mark the first of six consecutive Capital Athletic Conference games
to close out the 2009-10 regular season.
