FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Salisbury University
women's basketball team closed out its 2009-10 season Saturday
afternoon, falling to No. 25 University of Mary Washington, 81-53.
The Sea Gulls (9-15, 6-10 Capital Athletic Conference) finish
the season in seventh place in the CAC and will miss the
post-season tournament.
Salisbury battled with the Eagles throughout the first half. The
largest lead by Mary Washington (19-4, 14-1 CAC) in the first 20
minutes was 13 points, as the Sea Gulls kept the margin in single
digits throughout much of the first half. The Eagles came out of
the locker room and rattled off a 16-2 run to open the second half,
taking a commanding 24-point lead less than four minutes after
halftime.
The loss brings to a close the career of two instrumental
players in the program's last four years as senior forwards
Kylie Hall
(Baltimore, Md.) and Janay Johnson (Baltimore,
Md.) have each played their final game for the Sea
Gulls.
Hall closed out her career with an 11-point, nine-rebound
performance Saturday afternoon. She finishes as one of just nine
players in program history to amass 700 career points and 700
career rebounds. Her 739 rebounds rank eighth in program history.
Hall closes her career with 21 double-doubles.
Johnson finished with six points and three rebounds on Saturday.
She will go out as one of the most powerful post players to come
through Salisbury University, closing her career with 814 career
points and 524 career rebounds.
Salisbury got another big game from freshman forward Nicole Sisco
(Fairlawn, N.J.), who scored 14 points to go with five
rebounds, while sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover,
Md.) finished with a team-high 15 points and five
steals, matching her career high.
