Box Score SALISBURY, Md. - After a
heartbreaking 69-68 loss at the hands of Capital Athletic
Conference opponent Gallaudet University back on Jan. 6, the
Salisbury University women's basketball team set out to even things
up on Wednesday night. The Sea Gulls squared off against the Bison
once again and not only evened up the season series with a
convincing win, 87-48, but did so in record-setting fashion.
Salisbury (8-11, 5-6 CAC) dominated play from the tip-off, going
on a 21-4 run in the first eight minutes of the game to take a
commanding lead over the Bison (10-9, 5-7 CAC). The Sea Gulls' lead
would be further extended as they took a 42-16 lead into the locker
room, an astounding 26-point advantage; it marked not only this
season's largest leading margin the Sea Gulls have had at the end
of a first half, but also the fewest points they have allowed in a
half. The maroon and gold were led by sophomore guard Glen
Charlton (Landover, Md.), who was the only Sea Gull to
hit double-digits in the first half. To go along with her 10
points, Charlton had three steals; freshman forward Nicole Sisco (Fairlawn, N.J.) also stole the
ball three times in addition to her eight rebounds.
Salisbury continued to score buckets in the second half, going
on a 16-2 scoring run that extended the Sea Gull lead to 38. Senior
forward Kylie Hall (Baltimore, Md.) notched
her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 16 points
and pulling down 10 rebounds. Charlton finished with 18 points and
tied her single-season high in steals, grabbing five. Sisco, a
freshman, hit her career-high in steals as she finished with a
team-high six. It was a breakout game for freshman guard Tabitha Russell (Lanham, Md.) who hit
career-high totals in total points (5), steals (4), assists (3) and
minutes played (14). The 39-point margin of victory marks
Salisbury's best since the 2007-08 season, when the Gulls beat the
Bison by 55 points.
Tonight's win brings Salisbury's all-time CAC record against
Gallaudet to 24-7; the Sea Gulls have won the last 22 of 23
contests against the Bison. Salisbury's next game will be on
the road, against CAC opponent York (Pa.) College, on Feb. 6 at 4
p.m. The maroon and gold's next home contest, which is also the
WBCA Pink Zone game, will be against CAC opponent Stevenson
University on Feb. 13. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
