Box Score YORK, Pa. - The Salisbury University women's
basketball team battled throughout its game at York (Pa.) College
Monday night, but the last of five second-half lead changes went to
the Spartans. York took its final lead with one minute left and
held on to hand the Sea Gulls a 73-71 defeat.
Salisbury (8-12, 5-7 Capital Athletic Conference) led by as many
as 14 in the first half, starting the game on a 31-17 run. Freshman
forward Nicole Sisco (Fairlawn,
N.J.) scored 10 points during the game-opening run
while sophomore guard Glen Charlton (Landover,
Md.) added eight points during the stretch.
The Spartans (9-12, 5-7 CAC) chipped away and were able to get
the Salisbury advantage down to one at halftime, 35-34. The second
half was back-and-forth, with the lead only growing to more than
five points for either team once in the second half as the Sea
Gulls stretched their lead to eight, 64-56, with just over seven
minutes to play on a Charlton fast break lay-up.
Sisco finished the night with a career-best 22 points on 9-of-18
shooting from the floor, while pulling down 10 rebounds for her
second collegiate double-double. Charlton and senior forward
Kylie Hall
(Baltimore, Md.) each scored 14 points in the game.
Charlton also had three assists and four steals while junior guard
Chante'
McKinney (Gaithersburg, Md.) had five assists and a
career-high five steals.
Salisbury's next contest will be on Thursday, Feb. 11, when the
Sea Gulls travel to Marymount (Va.) University. The game was
originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10, but was pushed back a
day as part of a league-wide move to help accommodate the
reschedules of all Capital Athletic Conference games scheduled for
this past weekend. The entire slate of games was affected by the
large winter storm that hit the Middle Atlantic section of the
country. The Sea Gulls will return home to Maggs Physical
Activities Center on Saturday, Feb. 13, when they host Stevenson
University.
