Strong second half soars Sea Gulls to 3-0 victory

Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. – The Salisbury University men's soccer team picked up its second victory in Capital Athletic Conference play with Wednesday's win over Marymount (Va.) University. The Sea Gulls improved their record to 7-0-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAC.

The Sea Gulls won the game, 3-0, scoring all three goals in the second half. They outshot Marymount (2-5-1, 0-1-1 CAC) 28-4 in the game.

Junior midfielder Stafford Chipungu had a busy day as he scored one goal and assisted another. Chipungu put Salisbury on the board with its first goal of the game. Senior forward Mike Napolitano had the assist on the goal. Napolitano sprinted downfield and passed the ball up to Chipungu who planted the ball in the back of the net.

Less than 10 minutes later Chipungu kicked a pass to freshman midfielder Jake Perry who beat the keeper for the Sea Gulls' second goal of the day.

Salisbury's final goal, capping the 3-0 win, came on a cross from freshman forward Trevor Sharpe to junior forward Ian Wilson. Wilson took the cross and fired a shot past the Marymount defense into the goal.

The Salisbury defense held strong allowing only three shots on goal in the game. Sophomore goalkeeper John Vnenchak played all 90 minutes and saved all three shots on goal that he faced.

The Sea Gulls will hit the road on Saturday for their next game. They are set to travel to Frostburg State University for another CAC match. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
